Job Description

The core purpose of this role is to own customs clearance and transit-bond compliance. The primary goal is to ensure that entries are lodged correctly, borders are crossed cleanly, and bonds are acquitted (cleared) successfully.

Our organisation is seeking a suitably qualified Clearing Officer at Modest Alliance International based in Kampala Headquarters, Uganda.

Key Responsibilities

Customs Documentation: Prepare and lodge customs declarations, transit entries, and supporting documents (invoices, packing lists, Bills of Lading, permits) before cargo arrives.
Verification: Verify tariff classification, cargo descriptions, and values against mission documents before lodgement.
Bond Management: Manage transit bond utilization, track bond exposure per mission, and confirm exit and acquittal after delivery.
Stakeholder Liaison: Liaise with customs and revenue authorities, port operators, and agents at every port and border on the route.
Tracking & Reporting: Track clearance milestones in the system, alert operations immediately of any query, seizure, or delay, and maintain complete customs files per mission. Report bond exposure and clearance status weekly.

Required Qualifications

Relevant qualification or experience for the Clearing Officer role.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a similar role.
Knowledge of industry best practices.
