We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic IT Audit & Cybersecurity Intern to join our team for a 6-month internship programme. This opportunity is ideal for a student or recent graduate pursuing IT-related studies who is interested in gaining practical experience in IT auditing, cybersecurity, networking, information systems and technology risk management.

As an IT Audit & Cybersecurity Intern at Crowe Uganda, you will work alongside experienced professionals on live advisory and audit engagements. This role provides hands-on learning across information technology general controls, security protocols, network infrastructure, and risk management frameworks. Successful candidates will build strong foundational expertise in technology risk, preparing for an impactful career in IT governance, compliance, and cybersecurity.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in IT audit engagements, including documentation, testing and review of IT general controls (ITGCs).
Support cybersecurity assessments, vulnerability assessments and identification of IT security risks.
Assist in reviewing network infrastructure, configurations, access controls and security protocols.
Support IT risk assessments, internal control reviews and compliance testing.
Assist in evaluating information systems, data security and IT governance practices.
Participate in reviewing user access management, system backups and disaster recovery procedures.
Support the preparation of IT audit working papers, findings and reports.
Assist with internal IT support, troubleshooting and network administration where required.
Research emerging cybersecurity threats, IT risks and relevant industry standards.

Qualifications

Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree/diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems or a related field.
Strong interest in IT auditing, cybersecurity, networking and information security.
Basic understanding of networking concepts, operating systems and IT infrastructure.
Familiarity with cybersecurity principles, IT controls and risk management.
Basic knowledge of frameworks such as ISO 27001, COBIT or NIST is an added advantage.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and documentation skills.
Willingness to learn, attention to detail and ability to work in a team.
Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Security+, Network+ or introductory cybersecurity certifications will be an added advantage.
