Job Description
Nakaseke District Local Government is seeking a full-time Medical Laboratory Assistant to join its Health Services department. Based in Nakaseke District, this role reports directly to a Medical Laboratory Technologist. The primary responsibility is to assist in performing laboratory tests and procedures under supervision.
This position suits someone with a certificate or diploma in medical laboratory technology or a related field. Prior experience in a laboratory setting, especially in a public health facility, is advantageous. The successful candidate will work closely with the technologist and other healthcare staff to ensure accurate and timely test results.
Daily tasks include preparing samples, operating laboratory equipment, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace. The assistant will also assist in recording and reporting test outcomes, following established protocols. Attention to detail and adherence to safety standards are essential in this role.
The ideal candidate is reliable, works well in a team, and communicates effectively. They should be comfortable handling medical specimens and following technical instructions. This role is crucial in supporting the district's healthcare services by providing accurate laboratory data for patient diagnosis and treatment.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and process laboratory specimens for analysis.
- Perform routine laboratory tests and procedures as directed.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper functioning.
- Assist in the preparation of laboratory reagents and solutions.
- Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of laboratory results.
- Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment.
- Assist in inventory management of laboratory supplies.
- Support the Medical Laboratory Technologist in various laboratory activities.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Registration with the Allied Health Professionals Council.
- At least 1 year of relevant working experience in a similar role.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and practices.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and under supervision.
