Job Description

VAAL REAL ESTATE is hiring a MEP QS ENGINEER to join our team. The role involves managing MEP subcontractor progress claims, verifying procurement costs, and coordinating variation orders with contractors and subcontractors. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in quantity surveying for MEP works, particularly in East Africa, and will be proficient in MEP measurement software and Excel.

An opportunity has arisen for a MEP QS ENGINEER at VAAL REAL ESTATE.

Working within a supportive team, the post-holder will be expected to plan and prioritise their own workload, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and maintain high standards in every task. Previous experience in a comparable position is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

Measure and certify MEP subcontractor progress claims floor-by-floor against claimed invoices.
Support MEP procurement cost verification, against the approved budget.
Manage MEP variation orders and interface coordination with the Main Contractor and MEP subcontractors.
Feed MEP-specific cost and progress data into the Cost Control Engineer’s EVM reporting.

Qualifications

Degree or higher national diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Quantity Surveying with MEP specialisation.
8 to 10 years of quantity surveying experience focused on MEP works.
At least four years in East Africa, ideally Uganda, with experience of regional MEP supply chains and costs.
Experience on multi storey buildings with centralised systems such as generators, fire protection, pumps, lifts, HVAC and ICT.
MEP measurement software, CAD or BIM familiarity and advanced Excel skills.
Direct exposure to East African MEP supply chains, costing and design standards.
Experience with generators, fire fighting systems, water pumps, elevators, HVAC, ICT and CCTV on multi storey developments.
